Stansbury Museum

You've seen the rest now here's the best!

The history of Stansbury in words and photographs combined with a circa 1910 home. Interesting collections of clothing, gemstones, bottles, shells and dolls fill other rooms.
The outbuildings have extensive farm and industry orientated displays.
In the original schoolroom very large albums depict the history of the town and district in words & photographs to make interesting perusal. The town map set into a table-top with photographs of the original buildings is an eye-catching display.
The residence rooms are set circa 1910 with some unique paintings and rare clothing. Other rooms hold interesting collections representing the hobbies of early residents. Early farming practises are represented with varying implements and tools.
We are proud of our oyster dredge, wallaby skin coat, wool hand shears with grooved grip and a roller mill designed & constructed by local farmer and hired around the district.
Children can pretend to be a fireman on one of the town’s original fire trucks or race in a locally made soapbox.
The building was erected by the Government in 1878 as a school room with dwelling attached. The Museum was opened as a Australian Museum/Art Gallery in January 1976 following the successful collection of items for a display at the Centenary Celebrations in 1973.
A brief history of the changes to the building, with maps, is detailed on the back of the guide to rooms handed out at the front desk.
A variety of Volunteers bring a very diverse range of skills and expertise and what a difference it makes to our displays!

Outside, visitors can admire the museum's collection of farming utensils, motoring paraphernalia/engines, a scale model of Riddle Windmill and much more.

The Stansbury Museum, situated in the original school and headmaster's residence, offers a series of comprehensive displays showcasing the history and industry of the town.

Collections on display include dolls, clocks, gems/minerals, bottles and cameras as well as a clothing room, while other rooms within the museum have been refurbished to recreate the region's early times.
